Today was all about preparation for steps to come. All of our major engine parts were brought together in the chapter hangar. Our plan is to assemble the engine in the corner by the library. In order to do that, we decided to work on cleaning out that corner. We went though several boxes of miscellaneous things that have been donated to the chapter and determined what was junk and what was worth saving. What remained we reorganized, creating more space in which to work. Meanwhile, Joe had earlier pointed out that the outer surface of the aluminum stringers should be coated with a layer of epoxy paint so that any oxidation of the metal will not eventually show through the fabric. Mike took charge of preparing the stringers and mixing the paint and that job was also completed. We also worked on protecting some major components that will now go into storage until final assembly, including jury struts and the boot cowl. On Wednesday, November 1st at 9:30 we plan to take the fuselage down to the paint shop to have the interior cabin area and wing struts painted. Work will then continue on setting up our engine assembly work area.
