Wednesday, July 5th. Today progress was made on two projects. The newly trimmed floorboards were reinstalled and the process of figuring out how the rudder and brake pedals go together was begun. The whole thing is a surprisingly complicated puzzle for such a simple airplane. Luckily we had taken some photos of a finished installation which proved to be much more helpful than even Piper's drawings. Meanwhile, the top stringer had to be trimmed slightly in order for it to fit properly back at the tail. The bracket and pulley for the trim indicator wire will be attached to the stringer. We spent the last part of the session moving everything out of the way for Saturday's picnic. Tom Young stopped by on Monday of this week to inspect the tubing near the left rear window that Jerry thought was suspect. He agreed the tube should be replaced and offered to come next Saturday morning to replace it for us. So much of today was spent cutting out the old tube and preparing the surfaces for welding. Once that was done, we returned to fitting up the complicated rudder and brake pedal installation. We also worked on the bracket and pulley for the trim indicator. The next work session will be Saturday, July 15th at 9:30.
